Diabetes Screening
Diabetes develops slowly over time and may go undetected for many years. Because of the slow onset and minimal symptoms early in the disease, diagnosis is important. Untreated diabetes can lead to serious health risks, because high blood sugar levels can cause damage long before a person knows that they have diabetes.
Either a fasting glucose test or glucose tolerance test is used for diabetes screening. People who are over the age of 45 can be categorized as at-risk individuals and should under go this test.
